The ATLAS Experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider required the design of a custom ADC. The use of the Analog FastSPICE Platform from Siemens EDA, a part of Siemens Digital Industries Software allowed extensive chip simulations during the design phase, and thus led to high confidence of success at the tape-out stage. This was a crucial aspect given the time and costs involved in the production of test chips.
